Hey i am wondering if anyone has any experience with wiring up their own fluro fixtures?

I am in the process of putting together a hood for my tank. I will be putting in my own reflectors for the lights but I am not planning on using compact fluros of any sort. I thought it would be cheaper to just buy the few parts and wire up the lighting on my own. Any help would be greatly appretiated.

If your in the uk go to CEF and get the Flor. kits £9 each rip out the guts and your done. The bulbs can be changed if you want. I use then on my Planted S.American tank and had the ballast screwed to the back of the hood

Ya see thats exactly what i was thinking about doing, mounting the ballasts to the back of the hood to reduce issues with heat and what not.

Yeah its actually really easy with wiring. The ballasts are labeled most of the time. Two wires to the electrical outlet, and wires for the bulbs. Regular straight flourescents cant be wired backwards :). The real challenge is mounting them with clips and reflectors.
