Willow Tree Branches Rotting?

on 1/29, i put in around 8 willow tree branches in my 10 gallon tank to fix a green water problem. i came across this method here...

now, after about a week, i see little white puffs forming on the branches. are they rotting or will roots come out?

Was the tree branch alive when you got it? Also it say to take it out of the tank after the water turns clear again.

Err... Were they still connected to a living tree when you got them? >_>... Besides, you don't put TREES in your aquarium. e.e.. I think that'll just kill your fish.

how do i tell if the branches were alive when i got them?

Are they greenish yellow and smooth or black and wrinkled? Another way to tell is to cut or scratch them and see if the inside is green.

yes, they were cut off from a living willow tree. they were greenish yellow and smooth when i got them.

If they are still like that, and have white or pink bumps on them, they are rooting.

I'd say they are probably rooting. Willow takes root insanely easily, in its mission to take over the world Particularly when water is involved.

according to the directions in that link it is supposed to be rooting. I assume that is what is happening. Is it fluffy?
