I'm really unsure what to believe, at first I was completely imminent that we were all going to die suddenly. I have always thought the Supervolcano in Yellowstone National Park will go off- that would cause a lot of the other things which are threatening to kill us- i.e. the ice age, the blocking out of the sun, the floods, tsunami's etc. I've now researched a bit and I think it is less likely, although I think something might happen, i.e. we're put into a new ice age...

What is everyones views on this? Maybe you can reassure me!

Why 2012, why not 2015, 2020 or even 2011?

I turn 40 in 2012....so I plan on jumping off a bridge before that time. :hyper: (I said the same thing when I turned 30...but chickened out)

why 2012 will animals die then too as they have no concept of dates

everyone thought the same about 2000 its all based on what some one sais in 2013 if nothing happens it will be another date

just my opinion

The reason 2012 is mentioned so often is because the calendar created by the Mayans ends in 2012. Why some people have so much faith in the Mayans being able to predict the future when they couldn't even predict their own downfall, which was much nearer to them, is beyond me.

So no, we're not all going to die in 2012.

No, nobody will die until my cycle is finished, I predict sometime in 2014.

The holy Koran says what is gonna happen in the end of the world, here are some examples:
Note: these examples have been taken and translated.

1)- " When the sky is rent asunder, and it becomes red like ointment"
2)-" When the earth shall be shaken to it's depths"
3)- " And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms"
4)- " And the moon is buried in darkness"
5)- " And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage"

We'd better not, I finish my degree in 2012! I don't want to have spent 6 years of my life with my nose to the grindstone, only to die as soon as I've finished!

Seriously though, I don't think so. At least, not through the world being destroyed. It'd be more likely that there's a mass die-off from some kind of super-resistant epidemic than from the world shaking itself apart. It's existed for this long, I suspect it probably will continue to do so no matter what we do to it, right up until the sun goes supernova in about 5-6 billion years time. Additionally, as a species we have survived ice ages etc before, so while there could feasibly be a population drop due to climate change or disease, I don't think it will be a complete extinction. On the other hand, I don't think a massive human population drop would be a bad thing either.

That volcano is waaaaaaay overdue. It may not bring about the end of the world, but like the cretaceous extinction - it fed in with global warming (ironically leading to ice age) rises in CO in the atmosphere, rising oceans, and a couple of meteor strikes...

Hang on that sounds familiar

The world will not end in 2012, in back to the future 2 Marty McFly went to 2015. So don't worry about it

true and look how advanced it was we are gonna get so much cool stuff

I deal with a lot of unfortunate individuals that try to end it all by jumping of bridges on the Thames its a very sad and unfortunate subject as many are successful in there goal.

iluvfsh I really do hope you never reach the position in your life were you actually get to the point you are joking about.

If you do then you will be in a very sad and lonely place some were I hope none of you reach.

As for predicting the end of the world I figure life is to short and its a waste of time worrying about it in my humble opinion, I prefer to get on and live life and cherish each and every moment to the absolute MAX :good:
