As in the title, I was wondering. If i fitted a UV steriliser to help inhibit bacteria, will it effect the growth and well being of my plants. Not sure if the UV will remove any essential nutrients bacteria needed by the plants. Any input will be very welcome.
Many thanks
Ian

UV can render some micronutrients useless.

Healthy plants and good growth rates should prevent the problems that UV is designed to fight. Personally I'd rather spend the money on other equipment or plants.

Really!!?? I didnt know that. Ive been wanting to put a UV on the tank for a while as the discus occassionally do seem to suffer from Flukes and thought the UV would help prevent this but if its gonna affect the plants maybe I wont!!

With expensive, delicate fish UV is an option. Regular fert dosing should ensure there are no trace deficiencies.

This said a healthy, heavily planted tank will very rarely suffer from fish disease.

Many thanks for that advice gf225. I wasn't sure, but had a funny feeling that it would kill off or remove something vital for the plants. Now I know not to fit one as I have a pretty standard community tank as far as fish go. So nothing too delicate or expensive.
