My diffuser hasnt come yet (hopefully tomorrow), but i got bored and made up my first CO2 mix.

Its connected to a small airstone and is currently putting out a very small, slow stream of bubbles. Will this actually be doing anything? Is it too short to diffuse.

I have found that if I keep my tank filled very full (up to the top brace where the hood rests) and place the diffuser just under the lip that the bubbles will get trapped under the lip further aiding in diffusion.

Yes, just so long as the bubbles get sucked up into the filter, when they pass through the media and impeller the ubble get broken up into microbubbles then blasted around the tank.
