Will This Be Enough Bacteria?

I haven't been able to take the media from an established tank, but I have had a jug of water plus the sponge that was in the established filter was squeezed out into the jug. Its very dark/cloudy and I'm sure its full of bacteria, so I've taken my sponge out of the filter in my tank I'm about to start cycling and 'squished' it around all the sediment etc in the jug.

The tank is at 25c and should continue to increase to 30c+ overnight. I'm going to put the sponge, plus 5ml of 2.5molar (4.3%) ammonia into the tank and take a reading after a few mins, plus a reading tomorrow morning.

Will this be okay?

I'd pour the whole jug in if I were you. You'll be needing to do a water change after the cycle and before you add fish anyway, so the 'gunk' won't be a problem.

5ml should be fine. A level of between 4 and 5ppm is what you want to aim for.
