I just want to get other's opinions instead of just the Loacl Fish Store.

I have bridged 10 and 20 gallon tanks. Essentially 33 gallons with the bridge.

I will be going with about 12 platy fish to start. He suggesed 3 - 4 clown pleco's because they don't get too large and said to stay away from algae eaters because they are aggressive.

I would like to also add in 2 - 3 dwarf Goramis as he said they have the same mild disposition as the platy fish.

Would this be ok for a beginning tank?

What section of fish do Goramis and pleco fall under in the fish index?

How are you cycling the tank? I would advise a fishless cycle (pinned topic).

The advice to stay away from Chinese algae eaters is good. Not so sure about that many clown plecs though; I believe they can be territorial. Also, being wood-eaters, they do make quite a bit of mess, so I reckon 3-4 would be a bit much for the filtration. Just the one should be fine. Plecs fall under catfish in this forum.

Platies are lovely fish. The easiest option would be to keep males only, then you won't have to worry about fry. Females only usually make for a happy tank, but you may still get fry, as they can store sperm, if they have been kept with males previously. If you mix genders, you need to keep at least 2-3 females per male.

Dwarf gouramis are territorial, so you would only want to keep one male, perhaps with 2 females (they are the paler-coloured silvery ones). Dwarf gouramis are not very hardy, so I would leave adding them until the tank has been up and running for a few months. Gouramis are anabantoids- labyrinth fish.
