i was just given 8 female guppies, 2 male guppies, 6 female platies, 2 male platies, 4 ballon mollies and 1 male.

i have a cycled 40 gallon tank that i put them in. how exactly should it be set up? decor, salt ect. its running right now with some salt, medium planted (fake) some rock and a breeding mat, bubble wall and an up to 60 gallon duel filter, with lots of gravel.

i would love to add about 7 neons and 7 danios.

thats 37 smal fish.

i would keep the tank very clean doing often water changes.

will this work?

if not what would you suggest?

any hints or tips?

please let me know why or why not this wont work, and what i should do

thank you very much.

i would like to have this all done asap, so if you could throw out some answers asap i would really appreciate it thanks again.

ps if this isnt a good idea could you put togather using these kinda fish the ideal amount of each, and the max amount of each for this 40 gallon.

(keep in mind all babys are welcome, the more the marryier as i have a few cichlid tanks....)

Minus the salt and you'll be fine, over run with thousands of fry but fine.

Concidering the mollies will be 4 out of 37 fish I think the decision to add salt would be silly. Salt will make 33 fish suffer were as not adding salt will allow 33 to thrive and 4 to live almost to full potential.

Salt isn't critical, especially if you have hard or moderately hard water.

Personally, I'd get a slightly larger fish to add in there to limit the fry production if you want to keep them all long term. With that many livebearers, you'll have the potential for a lot of fry. A lone male molly could do the trick to ensure the fry are all relatively small compared to him.

thanks fo i will do another big water change and most of the salt should be gone. im gonna go get those neons and danios, and am soooooooooo xcited, i HOPE i am over run with fry as i have a big s/a cichlid tank, and my freind keeps needle nose gars!!! PERFECT!!!!!

Excessive feeding of feeder fish isnt good btw, specially for alot of cichlids that wouldnt naturally consume fish.
