I wanted to know if a male betta can live happily together with a bubble eye goldfish. The tank is presently at 6 gals but as soon as the bubble eye grows, i will upgrade the tank to a 10 or 12 gallon tank. Is the upgrade a reasonable size. I also wanted to know if bettas like calm waters or like water with a current. I have a power filter for my 6 g which produces reasonably strong current. Is this alright? My tank presently is at a temperature of 23 degrees celcius, (think around 74 degrees F). Is this temperature alright for my betta and goldfish if they are together? Thankyou for any responses. :)

hmm.....this is gunna be debated a lil bit. i think teh betta might get a lil nippy as goldfish have long pretty finage. goldfish also are coldwater while bettas are tropical. goldfish can tolerate water that is around 75 degrees but they are really buildt for cold water and prefer it that way. a betta will not be able to tolerate water under 60 degrees, they will die. goldfish are also like the pigeons of the fish world in my opinion. they muck up water real quick and will probably make a weaker betta sick. i vote against it, but if u heat it up and get some heavy duty filtration going it woulde probably be alright.

How many goldfish do you have in the six gallon. The rule for keeping goldfish is 20 gallons for the first fish and 10 extra gallons for each additional fish. And the betta will nip the fins on the goldfish. And I have a friend that maybe has a 8 or 10 gallon tank with some fancy guppies and some goldfish and a betta also some of those tetras that are blue and pink ( not sure what its called. And the betta looks horrible because his fins have been nipped from the tetras. Then they have this other tank thats maybe 5 gallons that has these very small fish that they caught from a nearby pond, have no clue what they are.

As messy as goldfish are, I wouldn't dare put one in a 6 gallon no matter how small it was. If you want the goldfish, go ahead and buy it at least a 15 gallon... this should be ok for a bubble eye. It'll grow faster and be much healthier if you go ahead and start it out in a good-sized aquarium
You could put the betta in the 6 gallon and get it some ghost shrimp and/or ADFs for tankmates

#1. Cold Water fish are not meant to live with Tropicals. That's why one is called cold water..they live in cold water and tropicals are called such because they live in tropical waters, which are reasonably warm.

#2. Goldfish produce toxic amounts of ammonia rapidly, that will only subject your betta to that...and seeing how ammonia is what gives them massive fin rot, you'd just be asking for trouble.

#3. Also by placing you goldie in such a small tank in the early stages of growing you put in dire risk of stunting.

#4. Putting an expensive, long finned, pretty, colorful fish with a betta is just asking to have it attacked?

#5. Bettas prefer still waters, or atleast one with a minute current. They aren't big fish and have long fins..the current to filter a goldie tank would blow them around..which stresses them out most of the time...since goldies are such tank muker-upers (aka poop machines).

I do not think it's a good idea at all. Not in the slightest.

Not a good match at all, betta and goldfish are completely different and couldn't live together if you gave them each the proper care. Betta must have warm water, goldfish cold. Goldfish a brakish, betta are not. Betta hate colorful fish and goldfish are colorful and nippy. Not to mention, the minimum size tank for a goldfish, I've heard, is 30 gallons.

Is it possible to transfer the betta in a 1 gallon tank. Put the small bubble eye in the 6 gallon tank. As the bubble eye begins to grow fast, i could transfer the goldfish to a 10 gallon tank and put the betta in the 6 g. As the bubble eye starts to outgrow the 10 gal, i could just transfer the goldfish in a 15 gallon. I will cycle the tanks well before i transfer the bubble eye between the tanks.
IMO i would like this process better because if started off with a 15 gallon, i might be tempted to stock it again but i just want a single bubble eye as my prized fish. Would this process be alright?

I think someone needs to learn the definition of brackish  . And a word of advice to bettaBetta, I'd sort that sig out before you loose the whole lot.

A 15 gallon would suffice for 1 goldie..yes, for now.

But honestly you need a bigger tank to start out with. Fish produce hormones into the water that will keep them from growing properly (called stunting) in a smaller tank, which is why it is suggested to have 20 gallons for the initial 1 goldfish and 10 for each additional goldie added. So for 2 a 30 gal would be perfect.

And techincally..you need at least 2 goldies (more is preferred)..they are very social and prefer company.

I agree with OohFeeshy in both areas of concern.

#1. Don't give out information that you don't know to be correct (a simply google search will tell you what brackish is and what fish live in it, and that bettas and goldfish are freshwater fish and only require salt if sick).
It's nice to try and help but if you have not done any research, don't just post information you have heard/seen elsewhere without double checking that it is actually correct first (that tends to make people leary of accepting advice..once they've gotten bad advice).

#2. Your signature is huge and way outside the guidelines. I mean, it takes up like the whole screen.
