I have a Platy, who gave birth to fry exactly 4 weeks ago. She is just about ready to give birth again. Lately I've noticed she seems to be a bit territorial, chasing the other fish off. There's no nipping going on as the other fish are plenty fast to get away. Is this normal? Is this a sign that babies are on their way soon?

Its possible, though my female pecks at any fish if they give her some grief and this can be anytime!!!!! :D

28 to 42 days for gestation i think

Youre lucky....i cant get my female to breed-i'm not too bothered as my mollies are breeding but i would like some red wagtails-i've even put a female yellow tuxedo platy in there to tempt the males-but what can you do-they must have headaches!

You'll just find this is the nature of some platies and the gesteration is usualy around 28 days, only take longer if the temperature is low.

Usualy when their close to giving birth they tend to go recluse and like to hind away in plants or quite corners, and tend to give birth over night.

Helter

My platy is also like that. Everytime I feed them, she drives the others away. As if she wants all the food for herself! :D

The first time she gave birth to 13 fry. Then after only 21 days, she gave birth again to 26 babies! I was not expecting that since she's not that bloated yet. I just woke up one day and found out that she was slimmer. And there are 26 new fry in my tank.
