I like the look of sand at the bottom of a tank however I also want plenty of plants in there.

Will plants grow in sand or should I go for the gravel ?

thanks

I'm no expert...but I'm sure they will grow if deep enough. Most people use a combination of substrates. For example, I've used an inch of Flourite as a base, then an inch of Sand on top of that.

plants will defenetly grow in sand. In fact, the will grow better. Just make shure you put at least 1.5 inches of sand first. I use 2. You might also want to add a layer of fertilizer under the sand so tha tthe plants grow better.

Most plants will grow in sand, but the more delicate ones like glosso and HC can be a bit tricky to grow on sand, it can be done they just need more TLC.
