Oh so excited!
i've definately got at least one baby endler in my tank, just seen it, so excited!
only problem is my neons have hung about in one corner of my tank since i got them but i noticed they had moved.
are they eating my new born fry??? :(

endler fry are smaller somewhat then guppy fry, if the neons mouth can fit it, there dead meat.

oh no!
i was all for nature taking it's course a wee bit later on when i added a couple of bigger fish but i was hoping to let the endlers raise their numbers first.
the neons are still quite small but i think the fact that they all moved at the same time kina suggests it my have been a sneaky little snack that they were not supposed to have.
hopefully a few of the fry have managed to hide and stay hidden till they are to big to eat.

Heavily plant your tank?

Will give them plenty of hiding places :good:

thanks shelster, will do. i've got a couple of big plastic banana plants in there but can chuck in a few real plants for cover. the one i seen last night was hidding under the base of the plant but the neons could still get at it. not spotted it this morn but it could be anywhere.
i was also thinking about maybe getting one of the mesh cages that sit in your main tank. think they are designed to do the oposite of the old breeding cages, these ones keep the fry in.

there's 2 now :D and the neons don't seem to be bothered about them. will def put some real plants in for more cover tho.

i've just got back from getting the plants for them, a microsorum, lobelia and a pogostemon. the fry (i think there is 4 now :) ) are all hidding in the light which is at the bottom, middle, back. should i put the plants in where they are hidding? or in the corner around the plastic one to bulk everything out a bit more and hope they move?

Have you discovered a way to tell the difference between endler and guppies? There was i thinking you had to have a microscope and you had to look at the gonopodium.

Surely the size of the fry depends on the the food you feed the mother? Feed them well and your get big eggs and big fry but fewer numbers. Crap food you get small eggs, smaller fry but larger number's. Same for all livebearers.

Back to IonaMcCluskey fish.

Neon's will happily eat fry as will all fish, even the parents. If you can get java moss then do so this is great for fry, they will hide in it and even feed off it.
