well, today i bought two new platys a beautiful red wagtail looked like female but no gravid spot, and a funny looking black platy male definitly, it has a white head and a black body sorta wite parts too. looks like a mutt, lol.

my question is, because they are different collours will they breed? i would love some baby platys!

anyone help?

the male is not showing the female any intrest soo far but is that just because they just met? lol

Yes they will breed no problem, just give them some time to settle :)

It is quite likely that they will breed platties arent hard to breed just keep ur parameters good and have patience. Your female might well be already pregnant it is quite possible that she has stored sperm.

Great :)

i was worried there! the males fins are ragedy so i have medicated him and the newcomers, the female platy seemed interested in my male guppy

is it possible that the female has stored sperm even though she has no gravid spot?

I have explained many times not to go by the gravid spot on this forum, so once more wont hurt lol.....

Females pregnant or not can have gravid spots (dark, clear, ornange, pinky).... Some fish gravids spots dont appear at all as thier skin is not transparrent enough to see them..

Dont go by the gravid spot on drops, go by SIZE OF THE FISH, also look for her dwelling near bottm, near, heater, top of tank.. also hanging around plants, near internal filters, and being very unsocial and wanting her own space.

Females store sperm packets and can drop fry every 4-6 weeks for 4-6 months.

ok sorry, come to think of it, the female seems not to want anything to do with the male and is hiding in my amazon sword plants, while the male swims merrily in my tank, the female doesnt notice the male at all. lol
