Hi,

My new plants which i put in my new tank have gone quite brown and bits have come off and floated to the filter. Also, the few tiny snails have been chomping them. Its amazing how much them little guys can eat ya know ! :dunno: (and even more amazing is how much waste they produce in the gravel !)

will the plants recover and start new growth or have they had it and i best take them out or cut the leaves off and leave the roots ? I have been feeding the plants with liquid food.

What type of plants do you have? How much light do you have and what is the capacity of your tank? Have you checked the levels in your tank? if so could you provide them. Some plants are very particular about the amount of light they get. If its a plant that requires a high light level 2 Watts per gal or better then it will turn brown if it does not get the right amount and intesity of light. The light should be on 10-12 hours a day for most plants.
Given the proper conditions i have seen plants come back from just a root ball so as long as the roots are alive you should be able to bring them back.
Also try the how does your garden grow forum on this site. HTH :)

ROB 28.

I have almost the same problem as you.

My problem was lighting, wrong plant food, and to little knowledge about the plant I have

liquid plant food, can only be used by true water plants, Most plant in the aquarium are plants than is only submerged under water 6-8 months a year, so they still get most of its nutrients from the roots, adding liquid plant food only helps the floating plants like Java fern, duck weed, algae, etc

Also more info on your tank would help alot

sometimes snails and planted tanks are a bad combo if you're interested in keeping your plants healthy. some plants like java ferns usually taste too nasty for them to chomp on
