hi ive got a java fern amazon sword and another plant which i cant ID
im just woundering if my plants will grow in the pots they came in they are near rocks so the roots might cling on to them but if not i will get them out of the pots and plant them can someone help ?

Are they in little black plastic pots with a wool-like stuff in it? If so, take them out and discard all the wool stuff (it's called Rock wool) and the plastic container. Careful not to hurt the roots when you take the rock wool off. Then you can plant your plants in the subtrate, and you can tie your java fern to an ornament or driftwood.
HTH!

Me and others I've talked to usually cut a little bit of the wool back, but generally you want to leave it since you're bound to remove some roots if in the process of removing all of it. The plastic can go, but I would leave about half of the wool attached. HTH

I always thought that you would want to take as much off as you possibly can cause the debris etc can rot if you leave it in the aquarium.
Although I think either way will do ok!
Glad I could help. :)

I have always tried to remove as much of the wool as possible. The plant nurseries infuse them with nutirents for maximum growth. This can get into the water. Over time scraps of the wool may end up in the water - esp if you have any bottom foraging fish.
