I have a trio of dwarf gouramis in my 20 gallon tank (1m 2f). Their only tank mates are tetras, otos and a BN plec (and a few cherry shrimp but they don't bother anyone :) ).

I would love it if they would breed, but at present the male can't stand the sight of the girls and chases them away whenever he sees them. Is it likely they will breed in the tank, or do I need to put them in a special separate tank or do something different to get them going?

put a male and female in a seperate tank within a week they will be breeding if it doesnt work once every week chnge the males

Lizzie, first of all try feeding them with live foods to encourage them to come into breeding condition. Then when they colour up, seperate them into another tank and let them take it from there.

Put them both in a seperate tank and feed them good quality live foods so (as aberdeen aquarist stated) to encourage them into the breed move.

However while they are in the seperate tank put a divider in there so that the male can see the female without being able to chase her away. As she will alway be in his vision this should stimulate him to start building his nest. once the nest is built remove the divider. Check the nest in a day or two and check if they have breeded? I used this once as I found this on another website. It worked for me aswell

good luck

:good:

This might sound absolutely stupid but are you 100% sure that you have 2 females and a male? I thought I had a pair of blue's and a pair of honey coloured, but when they started spawning with my male I realised both honey coloured are actually females, they were both approaching my male and touching him to encourage him to wrap round them both spawning eggs.
I am never sure how to sex them with the exception of my dominant male. Someone told me today they think my other powder blue is a male but not sure as its fins are different to my true male.
