I have an aquarline light starter unit (15w), with an 18" tube bulb. Attached to the back of the tank (24" aquarium, my hood gets soaked). Will this be ok for Java moss (which is coming in a few days)?

-Will it thrive with no ferts?
-Will it spread, also with no ferts, if so how long until it does?

Also i bought two good sized clumps of moss.

Thanks in advance, adam.

Javamoss is pretty hardy and should grow in your tank. The lighting is a bit low so you might get algae on the moss. What other plants do you have?

Dont have anyother plants...
Will the moss spread, if so how long until it does?

Will it survive, and stay green (i dont want it to turn brown). Also i have a 14g, with 15w lighting. I heard 1wpg was fine for java moss is this true, if so my lighting is fine right?

Thanks in advance, adam.

P.s. Try to reply please...

Yeah your java moss should be fine. Its a pretty hardy plant and will grow in almost any condition. 1wpg is fine.

My own experience with Java Moss was that having nitrates in the region of 10-20 ppm really helped growth. But i also had 2.6 wpg, so things may be different.

I wouldnt worry too much, it should be fine IMO

Thanks, how long will it take before it starts to spread?

That all depends on the conditions that its growing in. Im my case it grew like crazy. In your situation with 1wpg and no ferts then it will definately take alot longer. How much longer i dont know, perhaps someone with experience of growing Java Moss under 1 wpg conditions could tell you better.

Thanks, im actually upgrading my lighting to around 35-45W. So my lighting would then be 2.2-3wpg, and considering ferts.
