Hi, I know you've probably read alot of forums about how I want to breed platys and guppies. But I was wandering if they sell well? Or is there something better than guppies?

the only problem there is ,is that there 10 a penny
but they will sell just not for a great deal of money 2 be honest :)

Oh okay, is there something better and wont take up too much space?

Well, no they dont really sell. If you can create a High Quality Strain of guppies, that breed true, and are GORGEOUS, then they will sell, for alot, assuming you sell them on like aquabid.com . But, assuming you cycled your 10g tank, you could invest in something like A Apisotgramma ( Cockatoos are very pretty) they sell, VERY VERY FAST, but are VERY hard to breed ( in my experince), and you grow them out, they will sell, the market for Cockatoo Apistogramma is very HOT, they are in high demand, and they need a god grow out tank. Atleast 20 gallons, and sell after about 4-6 months of being grown in a indiviual tank.

I think I'll just stick with guppies. Because I'd like something that is easy to breed. Well what kind of guppies that are very popular?

I would cycle your tank ( this is very important), and then buy a somewhat expensive pair ( like 50-60 dollar) pair of aquabid and breed them.

Here is a link: http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auc...&1212797814

That trio is only 25 dollars. That is one pretty male. I owuld buy that trio if i was just starting off like you are, but, i may osund like im pestering you, you absolutely MUST cycle that tank, or buying that trio + shipping and handling, would be a waste of money. Regular common guppies you find at a lfs will simply not cut it when you sell guppies. In all reality, you just wont make much money on guppies. I highly suggest he Cockatoo's, so people have no problems breeding them. I would google thjem if i were you and take a look into them.

It all depends on your local market. This is something you need to research. You might not get much for livebearers, but is they are in demand the quantity will make up for that. If they are not in demand you will be stuck with a lot of fish.

You can also have some very nice, rare and expensive fish breeding that will not sell. People are hesitant to spend big money on fish, shops will not keep them in stock knowing this.

There are many variables that are mostly local, you really have to look into this yourself. Best bet is too hook up with a local club, this gives you more of an inside scoop of what is hot in your area.

A little over 2 years ago I was breeding apistogramma cacatoides, double & triple reds, & orange flash. Sold good at Chicago auctions, shops wouldn't touch them. Get to auctions outside of Chicago, they didn't know what they were, green aeneus corys sold better. After a year several people were breeding them, market swamped. They went cheap everywhere.

Platys are hot here now, a local breeder passed away about 2 years ago, nobody picked up the ball. Three years ago they were being given away at auctions. Last auction, out of 800 bags there was one bag of platys, here in Chicago. Same thing out in Indiana.

Club. Inside scoop. Research.

Oh wow! That's alot. Well I'll just find a good kinda guppy to breed
