60L tank. 4 zebra danios, 5 bandit corydoras, 2 mollies and 3 babies!
I've only had my mollies for 1 week and they seem to have had babies. I suddenly noticed 3 in there and they seem to be doing OK. The grown ups chase them a bit but there are quite a few plants and they seem to be hiding successfully.
The mollies I bought are almost black with a few silver spots but they came from a tank with quite a few more silvery ones. The babies seem to be gold coloured though. Will they change colour?
My father in law thought they were danio babies, surely not! mollie__1_.jpg

Full color will be seen in two to three months normally. As you have only had your Mollies for a week, the father of the fry may not be present. It could be any number of colors. The same thing happened to me. I have a female gold Molly that has yellow offspring generally that have black speckles, but I have one fry that is almost all black with silver accents and one that is yellow in front and black in the back. Your fry will change color, but most likely you're looking at some of the yellow staying.

Thanks. Here is mollie Mum and one of her fry. The chap in LFS said that as I bought Mum and Dad from same tank of similar coloured fish I had more chance of the fry being true to colour. I guess maybe it's a bit too late for that!mollie.jpg

mine are only week and 1 day and have full colour but there balloon molly fry. :)

are they with big fish because woulding they get eaten?

Your fish are most likely single strain for their colors, which is why they won't look like they will change much, but tiny variations do develop over the first twelve weeks. I had black spots appear on my fish that were all yellow from a yellow mother at about eight weeks. It's almost never so cut and dry.

in my experience mollies dotn get eaten, i think because they are born bigger than guppies n platys :)

i saw the mother go for one of my fry infact thats the one what was injured. my black molly killed one tired it in half :(

i thick most got eaten by the father or neons not sure

but then again it was overstocked now its just for the fry

The fry seem to be OK with the big fish. I've only got one tank so they haven't got much choice! They do get chased a bit but are quite good at hiding and there's lots of plants for them to hide in. The mollies have lots of algae to pick at too which I think keeps them occupied. I'm sure if they were hungry the fry wouldn't last long!
