I was thinking about getting this fish when I set up my shrimp tank as they are one of the most beautiful of all the tetras. But I wanted to know if they would kill the shrimp I would have? As I know they are top dwellers, they would make a great addition to the tank I want to create.

My sister had some Emperor tetras and her cherry shrimp population in the tank lasted barely a week.
Unfotunately almost any fish will view shrimplets (baby shrimp) as food and any fish that can fit the adult shrimp in their mouths will also view them as food. Even my group of sparlimg gouramis managed to kill adult cherry shrimp by constantly nipping at them.

The fish I have found sort of shrimp safe (provided the shrimp have plenty of plant life to hide in and its not a small tank), is guppies, endlers, corydoras catfish, bristle nose catfish, and Khuli loaches.

My guppies, platies and neon tetras are fine with my cherry shrimp... as mentioned above, though, any babies are more than likely to be eaten... but the juniors and adults in my tank co-exist without any trouble.

Yeh they'll munch shrimp. There are 2 species i found did well with cherries and they are halequin rasboras (almost exclusivly mid-top dwellers, never went near the substrate or the shrimp) and hatchet fish as they are exclusive top dwellers and only feed from the surface. Most other fish ive owned will eat or at least pick at the shrimp. Oh and as someone else has said bristlenose plecos wont go after ur shrimp either!

I would worry more for the fish than the shrimp tbh.

IME emperor tetras wont prey on anything that it cannot fit into it's mouth.
