i have 2 orange female platties, and 1 male (and 3 female) blue coral platties... will the different 'colours' mate??? I love babies!

I've never had color or pattern matter to a platty. An expert may have a different spin but my feeling is - SURE - if it's moving and smells like fish they will mate.

You sound like me when I first sstarted with platies....BABIES!! YAY!!!....now when I look in the tank and see babies I'm like "oh crap...not again" :S

That said, my favourite coloured platy gave birth for the first time today and I was pretty excited....I can't wait to see what colours the fry are!!

Then again, more fry=more fish=more tanks needed....and you can never have too many tanks right?? -_-

I might have the same exact thing going on in my tank.

I had mickey mouse platies (female) and a blue male. (What do the blue corals look like? Mine might be one)

The fry are all either light orange with reflective scales (in the proper light) or pale blue with the reflective scales. Some of them have the mice on their tails, others don't.

I ended up giving half of them away, and it turns out that all I got stuck with was males.

The blue corals are gorgeous.

They are this nice pale baby blue throughout the body with a stunning red tale. When I get my digital camera back from the repair shop I will take a pic. They are so beautiful.

My first baby (born in december) is almost as big as her mama now. I can't believe how fast she grew. :hyper:

Hi there,

I had all orange with black fin platties and wanted to have some colour so I purchased a white platty with orange fin.

THE Male platty won't go near her. She is bigger than him .. maybe he is scared of her. I never see him chasing her around like he does the little orange ones.

Do you know if there are different sizes in the platties ... I know they grow bigger .. but sometimes you see really big platties and then some seem like they are just smaller. Is this just their age?

Anyway, thats my platty story so no colour in my tank yet.

Thanks

Hi there. Attempted to take a pic with my video camera. Not the greatest quality... and a bit out of focus, but heres my blue male.

The blue is quite irrodecent, but the pic doesnt show that very well.

Some cousin of the black widow mates with a female that's 10-fold its size. get's eaten in the process, too. My betta tried mating with my male guppy. Rather, he started following it and I ended up moving the betta to smaller quarters.
