Will carbon filters remove liquid plant food?

The generally accepted belief is that carbon will remove the nutrients that we add to the tank in the form of fertiliser, so normally we do not use carbon in our filters for planted aquariums.

what kind of filter should I use? I only have a 29 gallon tank and those big cannister filters are for big aquariums. Does the cannister filters remove the nutrients from the firtilizers? If it doesnt remove the filter, does anyone know where to but cannister filters for a 29 gallon tank?
