I just feel bad having two 20 gal tanks with only 1 convict each in them. It's kind of boring. Well, not for me persay...I like them fine. But the cons don't seem happy. One lives fine with my common pleco, he'll be getting a BN or another small pleco once the commoner moves to a larger tank. The other is living with a yoyo loach and a farlowella right now, but he doesn't let them eat. Evil convict is in a 20 long, and the nice® convict is living in a 20 tall...well, not yet actually, still working on that tank. He's in my 29 gal, divided right now.

Anyways, would ANY fish be fine with the cons? Like a small pair of jewels or something? I haven't owned that many kinds of new worlds, I mainly stick to the dwarfs, so I really don't know many personalities. I would really like blood parrots, and these convicts were actually born in a tank that was cons, jacks, and parrots, but I'm afraid my tanks are to small? I was also considering giving the evil one a female, but I don't have any large fish who'd like to eat the fry (yet).
Advice?

i have herd that a big school of danios or larger tetras would be good with cons. dont get mad if im wrong though, lol

Well, my evil convict kills everything, from angels to other cons. That's why I have 2 seperate con tanks...he almost killed the other con. He prolly wouldn't do well with tetras or danios I don't think. Unless perhaps they were congo tetras...but can I really mix biotypes like that? I've always basically stuck to south america. My other con could quite possibly be fine with really large tetras. Or possibly swordtails? Has anyone tried keeping relitively"nice" convicts with swordtails?

Convicts are Central American.

A pair of jewels would massacre a convict. They will kill, not beat on, any other fish if they are guarding their spawn site. Jewels should be kept singly or with the same sex if they are to be kept in a semi aggressive or even aggressive community. The only things that will survive Jewel parents, rocks, and maybe a pleco  A single jewel should be ok with a con though :)

Yeah, I knew that. I really thought I said new world there...oops. I even thought about it while I was typing :dunno: My bad.

So a single jewel. Seems like a fine option. Are there any other cichlids that would be fine?

My two convicts have massacred the other tank inhabitants,Neons and Tiger Barbs have all fallen victim,I feel bad as I put this down to my own inexperience.
Otherwise the two convicts provide entertainment by moving pebbles around the tank.

yes firemouths wouldbe fine with the convicts ...... i strongly hope the convicts are only a few weeks old to have on in a 20 gal. and another in a devided 29. gal !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have aa real tiny bristle nose and about 15 neons in with my con in a 55 gal
