Hello, ok, I have a 50g tank which is curretnly home to 6 neon tetras, 3 albino barbs,3 green tiger barbs, 2 keyhole cichlids, 2 kribensis and a bristlenose. Im looking to add a pair of slightly bigger fish as my tanks still looks empty. Someone suggested angels, which i do think are lovely....question is-will they make my neon tetras dinner? If the answer to this is yes....anyone got any other suggestions as to what pair of fish might be better? thanks :)

Hi,

Neons are an angels natural food. Also an angel will eat anything it can fit into its mouth fish wise that is.

May i suggest some dwarf gourami's.

I've got gouramis, angels and neons in a tank together and there doing fine, but this is probably because the angel is still pretty small. I'm hoping since it's growing up with the neons it won't eat them.

If i do decide to add angels, i will buy a very young pair in the hope that they wont go after the neons. But i am told there is also the chance that the green tiger barbs might nip their fins :(

the tiger barbs probably will nip the fins of the anggel fish and it doesnt matter whether they grow up with neons they will still eat them in the wild they grow up with them and still eat them for their natural food

You'd just be delaying the inevitable!!!

Angels look nice, but are definately going to chomp neons, guppies and similar sized fish - there are rare exceptions but I wouldn't risk it at all.

Have to agree with everyone here. They will eat the neons as soon as they are big enough to do so. They don't react to them as fish they've always known or as friends. They're still food. I'd seperate them fairly soon if I were you. I won't even leave my sparkling gouramie and platties with my angels and they'll move as soon as their new tank is ready. Angels grow fast!
Hugs,
P.

Ok, im not going to buy any angels...i dont want the poor neons being lunch for anyone!can any of u think of a pair of slighlty larger fish that would suit my tank mates? It doesnt have to be cichlids...but seeing as this thread is already here il ask you guys for ideas :)

A wise and responsible decision! Neons and Angels are a bad mix, even if the angel is too small to eat them there's the risk of stress from the neons being confined with a preditor. I, for one, keep my tanks healthy by minimizing stress.
