I currently have a planted 35 Lit tank, with 3 x cardinal tetra and 3 x neon tetra.

I plant to get a 1 x cory cat fish (last) and 2 x cherry barbs also.

I was wondering if I would be able to keep a male Betta in with this lot?

I heard cherry barbs are much calmer than the other barbs and that the tetras I have may also be quite calm. However, I really don't want to go out and get a Betta for either it to destroy all the other fist or for the other fish to destroy it.

Any help is much appreciated, Thanks, :hyper:

Mixing a betta with any fish is a risk for both the betta and the other fish. It depends on the temperament of the fish, which you can't obviously judge. And corydora need to be kept in groups, not just as a lone fish.

I sucesfully kept a fighting fish in my tank of 5 neons, 3 cardinal tetras, 2 rosy barbs and some guppies. I also had a massive platy that kept trying to rip at his tail so I got rid of the platy.

Yea I get the feeling it depends on the temperament of the fish, if you get lucky or not! Maybe ill go for 2 x guppies in stead.

So this would leave me with eventually stocking to...

3 x cardinal tetra
3 x neon tetra
2 x guppies
2 x cherry barb
2 x cory cat fish (i think ill get another to keep it company)

so my next question is will this all fit in a 35 lit tank (26/27oC, Planted)? - Im adding bacteria and conditioner and plant feed, will use flakes, sinking food, alga things for the cat and freeze dried foods now and again and plan to clean every week, so determined to keep em all happy!

not completely yet, I have done the following so far ...

Day 1. I brought a 35 Lin tank, washed 3mm gravel and added it along with some ornaments, added the water
Day 2. I then added the heater and filter and after a few hours the conditioner and some bacteria.
day 3. added 3 small plants + plant supliment.
Day 7. Added in 3 x cardinal tetra and 3 x neon tetra.
Now on day 9 :)

Temperature is at 27oC atm

I plan now to clean the tank as often as i can hopefully decent changes every other day to get rid of all the fishy waste, Ill add in the others on the list i mentioned before in about another 2 weeks (so 4 weeks after tank set up) week by week with the cat fish going in last and the cherry barb next.

Just wanted to line up the fish i would have when its all complete incase i brought something only to find the next thing i was going to add doesnt like it.

Thanks,

Adriia

I'll leave someone else to explain cycling a tank, because it's late and I'm tired.. and the amount of times you type something does get trying. Only thing I will say is that "bottled bacteria" is a load of guff, it doesn't work.

You're tank is only approx 7 1/2 gallons, you really can't keep that many fish in there. Most people would put a betta alone in a tank of that size. The 6 tetras would be enough to stock that tank nevermind the rest of the fish.
