Remember the other week I said I had a Gourami with a white spot with red outline next to his mouth. Well its still there but someone I know has had kept Tropical fish for years in the past and now keeps marine fish said that I would notice more difference If I could dab some of the meds to the effected area using a cotton bud. He said using any meds in wtaer is difficult because it dilutes but said I should definently see some improvement if do it this way. You ever came across this????

It’s an old fashioned way to treat fish but can work very effectively. However, you have to be careful catching the fish as the stress it suffers from, and potential physical damage that occurs, can cause more problems. You also shouldn't use a cotton bud for it. Instead just put a drop on the affected area directly from the bottle of medication. Most bottles have a fine end where the medication can drip out of. If the bottle doesn't then use an eye dropper to put a drop on the area.

Ok I am going to try this. What is the best method for actually catching the fish. Also with the anti internal bacteria med its says when treating the tank to mix with warm water before putting in. Should I still be doing this when treating the effected wound or just apply straight from the bottle. Stupid question but best to double check.

Use 2 nets to catch the fish. I prefer 1 big net and 1 medium size net. Put the big net against the front glass and use the smaller net to chase the fish into it.

If you are treating the tank with the internal anti-bacterial medication then follow the directions and mix it with some tank water before pouring it in the tank. This dilutes it somewhat and helps prevent fish being poisoned if they swim directly into the medication as it is added to the tank.

If you are using the medication directly on the fish, then just catch the fish out and put a drop on its wound. Leave it out of water for about 10 seconds and then put it back in the tank. The infected area will probably go the same colour as the medication. That is fine and will fade over the next 24 hours, probably sooner.
If you are applying it directly then you often have to treat the fish once or twice a day until it is healed. This should only take a few days.

So after treating the med directly to the affected area I look at him this morning and the whiteness seems to have gone as if burst or some what. Its now just got the redness remaining. Still as active as when I first got him. Should I keep applying it?

yep, keep treating the fish for at least a couple of days, or for a day after the redness has gone and everything looks normal again. If you stop treating too soon there is a chance it will come back.

Appreciate the help. cheers.
