OK....the weather here has been rainy for the last few days and windy today....VERY windy....I am not talking your everyday breezy day...I am talking like trees have been falling onto powerlines kind of wind....

ANYWAYS....my fish have been overly active, all fish, even the usually quiet ones, have been darting about the tank like they are trying to escape tha bad fish food . The cichlids have been rather aggro towards each other as well...

NOW I know that dogs and cats go wild in wind and rain....but is it normal for fish to? Has anyone else experienced this?

I am worried that they might leap from the tank!!!

now that you mention it, we have had several close calls with hurricanes this year, and my fish do tend to get a little crazy when they are close by and the weather is nasty. we lost power with the first one for 30 hours, and the fish were really nuts till later that evening. i figured it was just the filters being off and the temp rising, but as the storm moved away from us they settled down. :dunno:

barametric pressure changes can explain this. Why we are not as in tune with it I don't understand but it effects the natural world. The huge changes that we get here during the Spring and Fall can be terrible trouble for the livestock. More colic in horses, runaway pets, bloat in goats etc. When I work with the vet we notice a huge change in the number of emergency calls.

In the wild many species of fish only spawn during the wet season when there is a abundance of food for their fry and more water for them to hide in from predators, it is this reason that when we experience patches of low pressure the fish will act a little strange. Many advanced fish keepers/breeders will take advantage of stormy weather by doing large water changes during thunderstorms to induce spawning.

so youre saying that if theres a storm youve got a better chance of fish breeding?

i think thats awsome :hyper:,

I miss Olive something terrible! She was always so pleasant and thoughtful AND had very interesting fish...
