So I was on vacation in Florida awhile back and we went on a walk in a swampy area with some streams and I saw schools of fish in the hundreds and they looked like neon tetras? Could they be? I am pretty sure they are not native to Florida.. what else could they be?

If not, then it could have been neons or cardinals. There are many people who release fish into the wild and they breed to make more. This has happened with common Plecos. It could be that people released neons into the wild and they adapted to live in Florida after many generations.

I dont have any photos! I wish I did. I was just thinking about it and remembered wondering what they were.

That would have been cool to see,was it around the everglades? I spent some time down there by alligator alley back in the early 2000s and all over the state. I will have to take a net with me if I ever get down there again

I use to live on the edge of Tampa, after a storm my dad found an alligator in our back yard, it was a small one. I was just a little kid at the time.

Yeah those alligators are everywhere
