good morning, i am now to this forum and would like to know if anyonwe out there has regular wild type scalare's? no veil tail or the other fancy type of angels. i would like to be able to grow them out(basic scalare) and go back to the way the fish original looked. if you have any of these types please email me. and also i know this might be a stretch, altum angels are hard to find. i would be interested in these also. thanks. Ben

true Pterophyllum scalare would actually be harder to find even though they are more common as they are less easily identified compared to Pterophyllum altum or Pterophyllum leopoldi which are more distinct and easier to look out for.

even if you locate a claimed Pterophyllum scalare it may not be the first generation before inbreeding with other angels unless certified

A transshipper or importer such as Jeff Rapps is your best bet. Often local clubs will have access to, or may actually be transshippers or importers. This takes a bit of licensing as well as paperwork, plus money. You will often be expected to buy an entire box, anywhere from 30 to 100 fish, depending on the size. This is one sure way to get wild blooded fish, the original silver angels, or altums if yoiu are lucky.

It seems like the cory & plec folks are doing a lot of importing, at least in my area, you may want to focus your search among clubs & such in this direction.
