Hi guys,

I think one of my widow tetras is pregnant. I know they scatter and then eat their own eggs but I'd like to give them a chance if she is. She's been noticeably big for around 7 days. When do you think the best time would be to pop her in a breeding box, I don't want to stress her by moving her too soon.

Thanks :fish:

I am afraid netting her won't do anything other than leave you with infertile eggs, and that's only if she doesn't eat them. The chances are she won't scatter them in there anyway. You see, she fills with roe (eggs) which are not fertilised. When she scattters them one or more males will spray into the water a milky substance containing sperm, only at this point do the eggs become fertilised.

Ahhhh I see!! Thank you for the info! Fact sheets on widow tetras are difficult to locate!
