Hi

Can anyone help explain my algae eaters strange behaviour please?

I don't know what type it is but its turned into a very large fish - about 4 inches long. Had this fish and another the same for months now and no strange behaviour till now. No additions or changes to teh tank at all.

I have gravel on the bottom of my tank and came in a day last week and noticed there was a hill on the side of the tank?

Couple of days later - also one at the front of the tank?

Tank was cleaned as norm and all the gravel hoovered and flattened out and the next day saame again.

Spoted this fish using his tail to move the stones into a hill?

Whats this all about?

Thanks in advance for any help to this curiosity ;)

He maybe looking for food, isit a pleco?

What size tank do you have?

Does it look like this?

sounds like he is looking for food or burrowing, i know alot of bottom dwellers will burrow, but never heard of an algae eater doing this

My cories have dug a trench around the entire perimeter of my tank.

do you have sand or gravel, they seem more interested in digging in a tank with sand

I've got sand.

They seem to spend a lot of time digging in the corners, though there's a definite trench all around the edge. I named one of my snails Lappy because when I first got him, he was going around the edge. Now we joke that they're digging a track for Lappy!

Cool. i have never actually seen cories dig trenches but i bet it is really interesting seeing their tails sticking out of the sand and then finding out that they are just burrowing

My huge L001 plec shifts gravel like a bulldozer and any ornament that gets in his way too when he's in a mood for relandscaping his tank. You can hear the gravel hit the glass! Corries like to burrow in sand

My clown plec insists on kicking out all the sand under the bogwood right down to the bare glass. Little git :D

Cool. Is it entertaining

No idea cause I never see him! Every water change I smooth down all the sand, every morning after there is a huge sand dune in front of the wood and bare glass underneath. I guess I'll know he died when the dune doesn't appear :D

I know this is a really old post but i found it useful i think.

I have been looking to find out what type of fish i have in my new tank i have required and i came across this thread as i was searching google for help.

My fish digs in the stones a lot and flicks them all over the place and i can hear them banging on the glass. I have a picture of him here but he hides everywhere he can and even sits in the corners of the tank.
