My blue rams spawned things were going really well.... until The eggs went missing. The rams were in the tank with tiny ember tetra, and a small otto but thats it. Did the tetera or otto go for the eggs or did mom and dad need a snack? I thought cichlids were good parents!! Did I do something or was there something wrong with the eggs?

I don't think your Tetra are the culprits!! Your rams would have defended the eggs to the hilt and the tetra would have no chance of getting near them.

I am amlost positive that it will have been your rams that ate their own eggs .

How long have you had your rams and is this the first time they have spawned?

It is very common for a new breeding pair rams to spawn a few times before any fry successfully hatch. It is trial and error for them and if the eggs don't hatch they simply eat them.

The exact same thing has happened to me twice now. Eggs layed...Rams guard them with their lives.....no hatching...rams ate them.

I am hoping for third time lucky. :/

Sounds like my pair! This is the first time they spawned and it had been about 2 1/2 days and they are very young rams and I had just gotton them. Sounds like I'll have to give them parenting class. You think Lamazze would work ???? :D

Thanks for the info I thought I made a bad call leaving the tank mates in there.
