im sure im crap at this just been cycling my 40gal (fishless) but prior to set got my sand washed it as good as i could

bought a nice rock the red porous type soaked it over night dropped it in the tank but had no lighting at this stage was in there for about 2 weeks

sorted out lighting on w/e with and would you believe pink water i have done several water changes but does not seem to go btw cycling finished i think

will it eventually clear or has the colour been left in my sand if so any ideas to get rid

cheers howard

What lamps do you have in the tank?

I know some of the arcadia lamps give off a bright red/pink glow.

Could just be slight cloudiness from gravel turned pink by the lamp...

did you was wash the rock before you put it in the tank, get some filter wool (the really fine, water cleaning type) the trpe that makes your water sparkle

i just bought a new one today old 1 went this am it is just a sylvania gro-lux 38w 1 tube at the mo i have condensation tray on the tank also

no gravel just sand but it has been set up for about 3 weeks now so would think it has settled

cheers for reply btw

phoenix i soaked it overnight is all and rubbed al loose stuff off it

i have an internal running also so just put the fine filter foam in that and will that clear it?

the externals not mine loaning a friends till ive saved up for mine

the white stuff or the blue stuff hopefully the white stuff cause i have loads of that

where did you get the rock from was it bought from

some fresh carbon in the filter may well help aswell. as this will remove any chemical colouring in the water

Are you planning on having very hard water? Becuase if I am correct, that type of rock will raise your water hardness and pH significantly. Have you checked to see if it did?
