Hi - i've tried feeding all my fish in 'Tank A' (see sig.) and none of them will eat peas, cucumber or lettuce leafs.

I've even cut them up into small and big pieces.

Any ideas?

maybe they just dont wana eat their veges lol
mummy fish" rite kids eat your veges or you cant play with your reflection"
kid fish "i dont wana"

sorry couldnt resist

you can buy pellets that have all the goodness of veg though

Sometimes you have to be persistent with them Timmy - if it's not what they've been used to recognising as food, then it may take them a little while to get used to it.

When I first started feeding veggies (courgette and peas mainly) to my community tank, everyone but the shrimp would turn their noses up at it and then peer at me in disgust.

I kept persisting and found that the best time to get them interested, not surprisingly, was just after they'd fasted for a couple of days! Ha! :D

I defrost the peas by sitting them in warm water, squeeze them to take the skin off and then chop them into small pieces. The courgette gets cut into thickish slices and then microwaved in some water for about 30secs, then I nick the skin in a couple of places and use a lead weight to sink it in the tank.

You could also try making your own frozen food mix. For my BW fish, I buy a pack of ready to eat seafood cocktail with no additives, stick it in the food processer with a courgette and then roughly blend it, so there's still some little chunks. Then I spread it on the back of a baking tray and freeze it, then break it up and store it in a food bag. The BW fish love this mix.

This recipe might be too high in protein for your FW fish though. Although you could always invent your own!

You neons, corys and plec in particular should learn to love veggie food. Good luck.

Keep trying it took me several days to get mine to eat. Place your cucumber on a skewer and set in the tank and the fish will find it. You might have to peel it first. My loaches find it first and then the other fish come to see what is going on. :hey:

Other than my otos (when I had them), none of my fish have ever eaten veggies except for peas which I used to treat a couple cases of constipation. I just quit trying them.

i can only comment on the corys. the first few times i feed them cucmber slice they didnt touch it. i then added 2 half slices and 5 cory's eat all but the skin in a night. i think it might take time forthem to get used to the "new" food

Its because they are not herbivors so they just dont eat those foods, feed them a selection of frozen and/or live foods and they will be much happier.
