Hi can you tell me why some of you out there suggest putting some salt in the water when you have guppys.I have a mixture of tetras and 2 corys and have just bought 2 guppys. They all get on really well wouldn't salt harm the other fish?.Also if i did put it in how much do i use.My tank is 15 uk gallons if that helps.

Salt is an old school additive used before the science of a cycled aquarium was understood. Salt will help with levels of nitrite in the water, but not much else. Aeration has been proven to help more than salt in an aquarium with any nitrite.

Save your money, and keep your fish in better condition without salt. Very few fish really need it, most are better off without it.

this is news to me and it makes sense. what's a good way of getting rid of the small amount salt i do have?

also what about salt baths? i heard they were the best way to cure a lot of the serious sicknesses.

yeah salt baths do help heal wounds and treat illnesses. just like how we humans use salt baths to do the same. salt removal i think could only be done using water changes.
