I bought 3 pin tail platy, i never saw this kinda platy b4, and only know guppy may have pin tail. so i bought them.
They look very healthy. But they hide behind plants. I have some shy platy do that as well. So i did not pay any attention.

they only come out when i feed them. 2 days passed, no problem. tonite, when i feed fish , 3 of them all come out and very active. However 2 hours later, i found 1 female died.

why? she looks very healthy and eat normal, the only difference is, they all look so frightened, once i put hand near water surface, they will hide immidately.

test water and do a water change, some platies will be shy at first until they get use the the tank.

Post your test resualts and then we can help more.

i tested the water, it is fine. And there are many fry there, none of them died. However, i did notice one thing. Compared to another tank, almost exactly same, they do like to hide.

My platy look exactly like this one

Something has to be up with the one fish. Whether or not you can notice it is another story. Was there anything visibly different with the fish that died such as sores, fungus, or ich? Hiding may indicate something perceived as a threat to the fish. Is the tank out in the open? A lot of times, adding more places for the fish to hide and putting a background on the tank make fish more comfortable. The fish may be stressed from all the fear and that might be why they are hiding.

There is nothing wrong with the platy, from outside, i can not see anything. The tank is a heavily planted tank. I know sick fish like to hide, but i can tell the difference, these platy hide becaseu there are scared by something. They will sneak out later,
i keep fish for many years, never see fish so shy.

And Platy are very hardy fish. i seldom have fish died in my hands, that is why i was so shocked.

Yeah, Platies are pretty hardy. That is confusing, especially since the tank is heaviliy planted. The plants should help with water quality and give the fish a place to hide. Given that it was only two days ago when you first posted, it's not uncomming to have the fish unfamiliar and still hiding.

Just let u guys know, the second female died tonite as well

why why why.

I guess there must be problem with these fish b4 i bought them? like internal problem?

There's most likely something wrong with that tank or the fish beforehand, but the only way to tell is to take complete stats on your tank. How large is the tank? What is in it? What does your test kit measure on ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate and when was the last time you did a water change? What kind of test kit is it? I know these may seem like basic questions, but I'm curious as to the root of the issue here.

In the future, you might want to set up a quarantine tank. It's basically a place to keep an eye on fish before adding them to a tank with any other living things. I've run into problems myself that a quarantine tank has saved me from in the past.

It's very difficualt to help people if you dont post your test resualts!!!!!!!!

I did ask you to for us to help you but u said
i tested the water, it is fine.

But what may be fine to you and what we may see is different.
I wish more people would be brave and do so if they rarely do want help!!!!

Thanks guys for suggestion. I think i know the reason now. It must be the food i feed them. Tonite, one of my another high fin platy looks very ill. does not swim a lot.

all of these 3 fishs are very active and eat well. But after i feed them in 20 minutes, they do not move, hide in the corner and died.

I have this high fin for half a year now, never had any problem b4. The food i feed them, is a kinda powder flake, for fry, which i bought from ebay, no brand, just was put in a small plastic bag. I noticed my endler fry do not like this kinda food. often spit out. so i decide to feed the adult platy.

i am 90% sure is this food problem, because there are huge difference b4 and after i feed the fish. However, there are many fish in the tank, why not all of them died? esp most of them are fry, or because fry is smaller, not greedy like adult platy, so they will not eat a lot?

NO, every time, it just happened in 20 minutes, the first 2 are new fish, so i do not know why. The third one is my old fish. she is very active, and flirt to the male when i back home, however, after i feed fish, she float on the top of tank, do not move, the endler fry try to pick on her. That is made me suspect about the food.

And those 2 died are same as well. very active, but just died very soon.

u added new fish it could be a posibility that there was to less of oxygen. in the tank. gills might be slightly pink just a sugestion
