Is there any reason why my java moss wouldnt be attaching itself to the slate i've got it tied to? and its also growing really really slow its been in there for like 6 months and hasn't attached itself or grown much since putting it in. Its really green though so it ain't dead.

Suggestions??

I've never had much luck getting Java moss to stick to slate, even when it sticks just fine to plastic in the same tank!

Anyway, one trick is this: Get a sheet of mesh from the garden centre, of the type used around ponds. Something moderately fine, with maybe 1-cm wide squares. Now, cut this to size so it fits on your slate. Put the Java moss on the slate, put the mesh on top, and then attach with rubber bands or black cotton thread.

Eventually the Java moss will grow all over the thing, hiding the mesh completely.

Cheers, Neale

I've never has success with growing moss on slate, only ever on bogwood, I just dont bother now!!

if you attach it with cotton it should grow to hide the cotton. even if it doesn't stick, it will look like it has!

my problem with mine is that it stuck to everything =/

i got some slate
put java moss on it (not too thick)
tied it down tightly fish fishing line (i found that cotton would break down )

after a week or so, it was stuck to it like glue :good:

i have mine near a good bit off flow, and i dose liquid Co2 and TPN =)

i also left a small bit of xmas moss in my tank two weeks ago, got back, its grown hugely!!!! almost quadroupled in size lol

Are you sure it is Java moss? This is often used as a generic term for all mosses, and is the most misidentified moss out there. Not all mosses attach themeselves to surfaces.

Dave.
