You can see in the pic where it seems like it's settling on just the top part of exposed rocks. Where it overlaps there isn't growth. Is that b/c of light not getting to the other parts? I'm not very well versed in algea growth  It's also growing all over the back of the tank!! It grows on the sides and front as well, but I clean the front of the tank for viewing pleasure. I really need my bristlenoses now! I get paid soon!

Lights are on about 8 hours a day. I have 2 flourescent bulbs and 2 actinic bulbs. Could that be part of the problem?

Its diatoms, the bristlenose will eat it, its common in new tanks for the first few months. If you dont have any plants you only need enough light for fish viewing, though diatoms will still grow in low light, ottos love the stuff too, but I am sure the bristles will do the job too.

Yep the bristlenoses will definitely take care of it. All my tanks get some to varying degrees. When ever I am planning on getting any type of algae eater, I let my quarantine tank get covered in it. Some times I even encourage it to grow. By the time the fish have passed quarantine (2 weeks) the tank is algae free :good:.
