http/www.gcca.net/ is a good size club, I've been to some of their events. It's a bit of a drive from where you are at, but I see folks regularly driving from out of state to other clubs events. Meetings are held in Rolling Meadows. They seem to have cancelled their January auction, but they have mini-auctions at the meetings, these are some of the best deals.

You can still order online in the winter
Fish are shipped in cold weather all the time... the seller will charge you to include a heat pack with the shipment, but it's only a dollar or two. They usually insulate the package with styrofoam as well, but I'd ask if they do so just to make sure. I shipped out some fish a couple of weeks ago in pretty cold temps and they made it alive.

liveaquaria.com doesnt charge extra. just the flat 29.99 for up to 130 dollar orders............the draw back is the min order on fish which is 30 dollars.

I know that some of the sellers on AquaBid have suspended shipment until after the holiday rush is over and the post office and other carriers get things back to normal.

I wouldn't recommend liveaquaria.com for living fish though. I tried ordering from them once and half the order arrived dead (C. schwartzi) and the other half were little more than fry. What's even worse was that the ones that arrived live were not even the fish I ordered, but one that wasn't even listed for sale. Their customer service department was great and refunded the amount of my entire purchase, including shipping. I wouldn't hesitate to buy supplies from them, but no more fish.

I think your best bet for ordering online is AquaBid. There are many good sellers and many of our members here have bought from them. You can always start a thread to find out. If you are interested in buying any corys, for example, I'd be happy to tell you about my experience with almost any of the sellers in that part.
