My 10 gallon tank consist of a few neon tetra and guppies only. In the past when one or two of my guppies got sick to the point where they had to rest on the gravel, I usually take them out when I see them that way to get rejuvenated. But since I decided to get a few ghost shrimps for the heck of it and to eat left overs whenever a fish got sick it would not make it overnight. This is because often times the ghost shrimp will waddle along and eat or tear of the fins and tail of the sick fish which is sometimes unable to swim fast enough.

I have lost 2 guppies due to them, and I have actually awoke in the middle of the night to see the ghost shrimp chasing and harrassing the injured fish to nibble on his fin. Since getting them I have lost over 2 recovering guppies and never in the past. The ghost shrimp would leave them at the point where it is unable to treat them.

Also, yes I am sure they were ghost shrimp and not another fish eating relatives of theirs. But that's just my thoughts on them if anyone wanted to know or cared.

Any time you see a fish harassing another, separate them, even though you read that they are compatible.

You should check the water parameters. Get test strips. If you have colored gravel, wash the excess color. Wash until no more excess color leeches out into the water. I also clean new decorations and tanks with warm water and chlorine bleach, then rinse thoroughly and add dechlorinating drops before cycling.
