i have two bristlenose catfish that i have had for about 2 months. the place i got them from always has them and ive been looking at them for a long time. it wasnt until i got mine home that i noticed they have no bristles. i remember some i looked at in the lfs having them. so-
do they just need to mature? (theyre getting kinda big now)
are they female and so dont have them?
or are they something else?

i have a bristlenose and she looks exactly the same as the ones you have. how big are they? mine is about 5cm and she has no bristles either. males usually begin to get bristles at about 5cm long. i think you must have females.

i cant see them at the minute
but i think one is about 5 and one is six.
oh and i forgot to mention the two pics up there are of the same fish. it was just so u could see. that is the smaller one

Female bristlenose's tend to get smaller and fewer bristles, if any at all!

My adult female has non whatsoever.

My 2 males are 5 and 6 inches and there faces are covered in bristles but my 3 females have none and are about 4 inches long

That is most certainly not an L200. Not sure exactly what it is though ? :dunno: And also certainly not a common bristlenose either. L018 or L259 ? But not quite sure. Anyway, if that is the case, they wont have the bristles as other bristlenoses do.

They are young female Ancisterus temminckii, which is the common bristlenose.

CFC are you sure ? :/ I'm not convinced. What about the yellow tips on the dorsal fin and tail ?

my female has the same yellow tips and i was told she was a common bristlenose
