Why do my platies swin against the glass all the..

Why do my platies swim up and down against the glass. I put some card board against it because i thought they could see them selves in a morror or something.That only stopped them for a few seconds then they were right back against the glass. Its srange but I think that there is not much in their brain to relise. If you have had this happen please help me, They have a lovely tank and they prefer the glass.

How long have you had them for what size is the tank and how many do you have in there? Also how clean is the glass!

I have half a dozen and they have been in there for a couple of weeks, the tank is a nine gallon hex or something and the glass is very clean but it seems to be only on one wall that they do it and they only seem to do it most in the mornings and then in the afternoons the bulk of them are doing it but a few leave..strange.....
