Well my silver sailfin molly gave birth 3 days ago to around 20 fry that i know of i have fifteen upon others i am letting themrun it out in the main but neway the fry are in a plastic trap for now and i woke up wthis morning to find my silver sailfin molly dead in the trap NO MISSING BABIES !?!?!? what happened ?

She stressed out in the breeding trap.Never liked or used them before.Just put in lots of plants, real or plastic and young should survive

So sorry to hear about your Sailfin

I used a breeding box before I had my baby tank. I did not put mum in it though, I let nature take it course and netted out any babies I had and just put the babies into the breeding box, what lee-an says is right, they will survive with plenty of places to hide but you will not get quite so many as some may get eaten, but mum will be OK. I have read quite often on here that mum's die when moved at wrong time (too early or too late), or because they get stressed in the box. :D

No no no, she had the babies out of the box and i used it to store the 15 fry i netted ............. Mom jumped into the box when it had no lid or v in it and died ....... she was swimming fne in the mroning (had her babies sometime in the night) and one day later was dea in the box
I was going to use a box for my sword b/c the male seems to love to eat them as they drop but i dont wnat to trap her in there with a lid b/c she jumps out and i admire her strength and intellegence to do that :flex:

Oh I'm so sorry, thats terrible :(

I've seen a fish jump from one tank to the next in a lfs, but I've been lucky so far none of mine have ever tried to jump.

:fun:
