okay i got duel DIY Co2 injectors i also have some liquid ferts called leaf zone. the light i use came with the hood all i know is that its flouresent. right know i got seven live plants in there and there all being bums. the leaves keep turning clear or brownish and then go mushy sort of and fall off. also some of the plants have small dark green blotches on them. why are they doing this!? do i need a better light? i heard leaf zone doesnt have a broad spectrum of nutrients but thats all i could find so its better then nothing. right know the plants i keep are anubis and variety of swords. anything will help.

thanks,

Connor

better light. thats about all that i can get from you, really. i use a fert from nutrafin, its really good, made my plants turn as green as a lemon! oh, btw, i have a bout 2.5 wats per gallon, so yeah i have a whole lot of wattage there. i would recommend at least 1.5 wpg, and you probably will just keep yur plants alive ang growing, but not flourishing.

okay well ill have to look into the hardness of my city water. anyways my WPG is 0.6 from what i can tell thats not enough. ill look into buying a new lightbulb. there are some at my lfs and there labeled like 30 watts or 50 watts and they also have a guide so the green ones with a "p" are good for plants. What kind should I get maybe a 30watt for plants?

mm.. IME plants seem to love hard water... my water is hard and they grow so fast...

and I would say it si definatly your WPG. 0.6 is too little.. increase the light to 2+ WPG and not only will plants grow but your fish will be even more colorful then before!

A 18"/20" 50W bulb will be hard to find, you don't get them for fishtanks. I can grow lots of plants, even riccia with 0.8WPG, none have ever died on me, my amazon swords and crypts thrive with me. If you look at some ADA substrate products, it says that plants can't get the nutrients they need with hard water, and the substrates break the hardness down so they can get the nutrients.

I wouldn't use any chemicals, if I needed to i'd use objects such as rocks, but research into them first, i've never needed to use them so i'm not sure what things do what.

the only rocks you can find here are dead coral and maybe some slate thats about it. what kind of rocks are these like dead coral cuz that could also leak calcium into my tank -_- .
