I have some small low tech tanks for my shrimps, there are no CO2, low light. I kept some Java fern, moss etc there.
but some fastgrow floating plants would be good for the water condition.

i used to have duckweed there, they do great jobs, but quite messy, thus i get rid of them and bought some water lettuce.

The first batch i bought are quite small baby plants, they soon turn yellow and died one by one.

Last week i bought some big ones, however, their leaves turn yellow and rotten soon, where is problem?

i thought water lettuce should be very hardy float plants

it could be suffering from cold. Small plants are also much harder to keep alive in an aquarium. Give them lots and lots of light and some iron fertiliser and keep the water temp above 24C and they should be ok. Don't have the tank covered because the extra humidity can cause problems to them.

there are heaters in the tanks, so temperature should be fine. i can not does ferts in these tanks because of shrimps.

their leaves are not that kinda yellow which lack of ferts , their leaves basically withered and rotten.

why?

if i put stem plants there, though they grow not as good as in my high tech planted tank, but they could survive.

but for these lettuce, they all died out within one week.

you can dose ferts with shrimp, loads of people with planted tanks keep shrimps, i dose TPN+ daily and i keep RCS. The onlky element which will harm them is copper but as long as this is in a trace then it will be fine.
