after finally reching a point where all the fish in the aquarium are happy and healthy looking.... this has taken longer than most..... i notice a white growth/spot just above the mouth of 1 of our peppered catfish, ok add some antifungus treatment and zap its destroying the tank over night!.
I got back form work, to find the fish are just sitting inactive on the bottom and really look deathly ill swimming is laboured/impossible and there seems to be no balance and the most disturbing thing is that our lovely tetras that are bright red/orange have become so pale as to be semi translucent and far from their boysterous selfs.
i immeaditely did a 50% water change and but the carbon back in the filter as i thought it must be the medicine affecting the fish as that all that has changed in the space of 10 hours was at work.

12 hours later... most of the colour has returned to the tetras and they are moving again albeit not with the activity they previously displayed..... 2 of the 8 catfish are able to swim but most of them are still lounging around in what humans terms would be lying on the floor hugging the toilet hoping you can pass out before the drink catches up with you

please offer some advice on how i can return these fish to health if at all.

i have just set up a 2nd well planted aquarium but the filter is brand new and its not a cycled tank (2 days old with dechlorinated water), any idea if i can use this tank for the really ill looking fish or weatehr its best just to not disturb them anymore and hope whatever it is leaves their system?

oh yeha and just wondered if cat fish can get oygen from under the water as well as abofe it as they dont look like they will be swiming up for air anytime soon :(

I personally wouldnt move anything into the new tank, let alone sick fish. You need to check water stats as a starting point. Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, PH etc

Tank size: 090l
pH: 8
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0.3 mg/l
nitrate: ?
kH: ?
gH: ?
tank temp: 25C

wilder im just checking you link then will edit this post, and ty dark i'll not touch them
the white spot which is slightly raised is about 1mm diameter so its pretty small. i was thinkning it was the start of a fungal growth as its slightly raised

I would treat it as bacterial.
Can you issolate the sick fish.
United states maracyn one and two.
Uk myxazin and pimafix.

good luck, and I hope it's not columnaris for you....I've got it in my tank, still trying to sort it after 2 months :(

its been a few days now and everyting seems to be fine the fish are back to their normal colours and character (even the oldest catfish who couldnt even move is better) and we have started treating with pimafix and no advese reactions yet, so thasnk tweety
