They may be lazy and not eat algae, but they are most certainly not aggressive. :p

He's hanging out right next to my cool Cory cat.

And yes. The Cory still has all of his eyes.

Yeah, it's usually the same with every fish. Young fish, are nice and docile, but they change when they mature and toughen up.

Agreed, its when they grow they become aggressive, you potentially have a timebomb ready to go to town on your other fish.

lol - mine was like that. I had 2, and for about 6 months they played with each other and acted like little angles. Then they started aggresively chasing other fish around the tank, including my clown loaches and caused no end of trouble. Ended up taking them back to my LFS, who reluctantly took them back.

Lol.. guess the OP missed the part in all of the threads out there where it's been said that the CAE gets aggressive as it matures... theirs obviously is still a sweet little bebeh :p

Just as an aside, they are aggressive in the wild too. Displaying shoaling tendancies when young (as in many fish) but becomming territorial and opportunistic feeders as they mature. As quite large and powerful aquarium fish they can cause quite a lot of damage!

I've had a Chinese Algae eating loach for quite some time now and I've learnt something very important.. When these fish are young they're great. But when they're older they are territorial. I've never seen mine actually get hold of a tank mate, but if one annoys it, it will chase the offfender around the tank. The way I've got around it stressing my fish is to provide lots of hiding holes for him... and I think my male bristle nose keeps him in check as well.

Be warned, but enjoy your fishy friend.

Nice cory, doesnt look natural though, whats the sub-species?

As others have said, the CAE is only a little one right now, there's a good chance that it will become a lot less peaceful as it matures- so keep an eye on it, be careful in particular about keeping CAE's with other bottom dwellers like corys, since corys do not have any concept of territory and they can easily come victum to agressive CAE's when they unknowingly bumble into the CAE's territory.

Also make sure you have a large enough tank for this fish if you do plan on keeping it, CAE's have the potential grow up to 10inches+ long. They are great fish but it is a real shame that they can turn agressive/territorial when older, if you do get problems with your CAE, i have found they don't tend to go for small indentical shoaling fish, so a CAE can still be kept in a community tank of sorts if you stock it very carefully  .

Do you think Petsmart/Petco will take it back after a couple of months?

Also, I bought it as an Emerald Green Cory. All of my fish are in my signature.

I'm thinking of getting 2 peppered Cory's and a few black danios.

What do you recommend.

Personly Id recommend taking it back now and getting some more 'emerald' cories :) about 4 more.
