My cute little mystery snail, Sluggo, was found dead today, with his little empty shell lodged in the corner, and his trapdoor piece a few inches away from him. :'(

I worry for Samuel, his albino partner who resides in the same tank.

For at least a few months, the tank has had these inhabitants:

1 blue gourami
1 BN pleco
5 zebra danios
3 peppered cories
2 emerald cories

There have been a couple mysterious fish deaths, but the fish go pale and go off to the side for a few days, then disappear. I am guessing they go die in the dense background of plants, because I never find the bodies.

About a week ago, I added 4 ghost shrimp, and Samuel, the albino mystery snail. They were quarantined (along with 3 guppies) for exactly 2 weeks, and no one showed any signs of sickness, and there were no deaths. I noticed a shrimp being harassed by the cories, but after that, everyone seemed ok and I would occasionally see a shrimp scurry across the bottom of the tank.

A couple days ago, the snails started acting weird. I noticed Samuel buried almost completely in the sand, and Sluggo buried about halfway in the sand.

Occasionally since I got him, Sluggo has drifted/floated in the tank, but that would only last for a day or so and he would then resume cruising the tank suction-style. I haven't noticed any fish harassing him, though the BN Pleco comes out at night more, and I wouldn't put it past him to reserve his naughty acts for when I'm not around to break up the harassment. I have heard of plecos cleaning snails to death, so he is my main suspect.

So, whodunnit?? Or, whatdunnit?? And, what should I do with Samuel?

I am going to really miss Sluggo. It was so cool to see him cruising the tank, through the bubble net on the back wall, through the sand, climbing from plant to plant, hanging periously from the tip of a long plant, or mysteriously floating around the tank. :(

RIP sluggo. You were friggin' awesome. :(

ETA that the tank is about 26 US gallons.

He may have died naturally and then the cories cleaned him out. If they can get to the soft part of the body without resistance,I wouldn't put it beyond the cories or the bristlenos. My bristlenose attached himself to a dyeing rosy red minnow before my leopard gourami could eat it.
