Few of my Molly & Guppy died recently, I was wondering why, as everything is find with my tank... I keep observing for quite some time.

Finally I know the cause of the depth... It is my Chinese algae eater... it is kind of very aggresive fish. I thought it only eats algae, but in fact it eats fishes as well...

I have leant something new and wanted to share with you guys...

But I have a question, anyone could suggest a better choice to substitute my chinese algae eater in doing it's job?

yes oto's would be a much safer bet, or maybe amano shrimp or a bristlenose plec, depends a little on tank size, what other tankmates you have. :)

I have had similar problems with Chinese Algae Eaters- never again! - and so have lots of people on the forum. Not a community fish at all really. And once they mature, they don't even eat algae.
I have never found a fish that eats all algae. My amano shrimps eat thread algae beautifully, my bristlenoses eat the brown stuff and the black brush stuff and the ordinary green stuff, nothing eats that horrible hard green stuff at the front of the tank, and nothing eats cyanobacteria. Have never tried otos.

Sorry to hear about the deaths. :( Were your mollies and guppies pregnant at the time of their deaths? Are you sure there isn't a bacterial infection in your tank?

Also, I really like those big egg looking rocks. What kind of rocks are those?

It has killed 2 of my female Molly after they gave birth, 1 male molly, 1 female guppy after it gave birth, 1 male guppy, and few Molly fry (few months old), and a chinese algae eater too. That's a lot, each died in a day, I thought is bacteria or something wrong, but I noticed some obvious scar on the dead fishes...

I have removed the chinese algae eater from my community tank n fry tank.

Will try oto....

The rock is some polished stone, but not sure the exact name... :)
