who keeps freash water clams?

is it ok to put my fw clams in my newly cycled tank? or is there a chance when they die they will polute the water...when they die how will i tell thet they are dead???

Thats exactly one of the problems with them.
When they die, you don't know until they've polluted your water.

They are also filter feeders and wouldn't be able to get enough to eat in a regular fresh water setup.

And besides, they are boring as hell
 
Possibly the biggest problem with many freshwater bivalves is that if they breed, the lavae are paracitic and burrow into the skins of fish producing ulcers that evenually burst to let the baby molluscs out. This leaves the fish weakened and injured and prone to disease.

Best not to keep them with fish.
 
when the river my me gets low you can see the clams they are vertical and are always sticking out just enough so you can see the holes where they take in the water
